Graham is Athlete Of The Week!

Congratulations to Graham who was recognized (for the Second Time!) as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Graham is a true “Warrior Athlete” who uses his gift for physical fitness and mental toughness to serve his Country. When Graham first joined our gym, his long-term career goal was to serve as a Combat Weatherman in the United States Air Force. Fast-forward nearly two years, and Graham is now well over half-way  finished with his training. Graham is a successful graduate of our Countries most challenging and prestigious training schools, including Survival School and Jump School. Graham has also made incredible progress in his traditional CrossFit skills and conditioning, as evident by some top scores in the gym during his Christmas break. Graham continues to shine from the inside-out with his infections smile, goodwill, kindness, dedication and Warrior Spirit. Congratulations Graham on all your success, we are all so proud of you!

Raul is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations and “Ossssssss” to Raul on being recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Raul is one of a select group of professional level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters who participates in the invitation CAMP (CrossFit Pleasure Point Maximum Performance) workouts and Warrior Yoga program. His conditioning, warrior spirit, dedication, mental toughness, victorious mindset and drive are respected by all who know him. A man of God, Raul is also a great leader and educator, and runs the Claudio Franca Jiu Jitsu school in Watsonville. Raul was recently awarded his Black Belt by Claudio, and has some big goals set for 2016. Raul, like Nathan “The Champion” Mendelsohn, is an Officially Sponsored CrossFit Pleasure Point Competitive Athlete. Congratulations Raul on all your success!

Bishop Britain is Athlete Of The Week!

Congratulations to Britain Wilson who was recognized (for the Second Time) as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Since committing to the Zone Diet approximately five months ago, Britain has absolutely dominated the conditioning workouts at our gym, and has also made incredible strength gains in the Tempo Training. Just last Wednesday, Britain nailed a 215lb. Front Squat, setting a new Personal Record. He has also made awesome progress with his Double Unders. However, it’s what Britain does outside the gym that makes him truly remarkable. Britain is a leader in his church community, and recently took on the role of Bishop at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Capitola. Britain will also be officiating at Justin and Brie’s wedding! Britain is a wonderful example of the character qualities of faith, service, devotion and discipline. Adriana “Adrea” is Athlete Of The Week!

Congratulations and “Osssssss” to Adriana who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Adriana is an incredibly gifted Athlete, with a solid background in strength and conditioning.  She immediately excelled in the CrossFit workouts, and gravitated towards our CAMP program due to her passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Adriana has a keen sense of technique and body control, and displays virtuosity both inside the gym and on the mat. She is also encouraging, supportive and kind to her fellow Athletes and competitors, and is respected for her composure. Adriana was recently awarded her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt from Claudio Franca, which is a huge and well deserved accomplishment. Congratulations Adriana on all your success!

Aaron is Athlete Of The Week!

Congratulations to Aaron who was recognized (for the second time!) as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Aaron is a recent graduate of Chiropractic School and is finishing his internship with Dr. Dave Love. Aaron is a natural leader and healer, and has a passion for helping people achieve alignment in every aspect of their life. Aaron is also passionate about physical fitness, and has joined the CrossFit Pleasure Point Coaching Team! Many people know Aaron as the man who coined the term at our gym “Trifecta Challenge” by attending upwards of three classes a day, including CrossFit, Light, Yoga, Krav Maga, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Aaron and his wife Shannon are a testimony to their faith and belief in selfless service. Congratulations Aaron on all your success, both inside and outside the gym.

JJ is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to JJ who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. JJ was recently awarded his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt by Coach Garth Taylor. JJ has been an instrumental part of the CrossFit Pleasure Point and Kaijin Mixed Martial Arts Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at our gym. Since the first Jiu Jitsu class at our gym, JJ has been extremely kind, helpful, and encouraging of our Athletes, and has been eager to share his wealth of knowledge. JJ currently leads the instruction on Thursday nights at our Krav Maga studio. JJ is an awesome instructor whose love for fitness and Jiu Jitsu is evident from the moment you meet him. USAF Warrior Nick Conforti is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Nick who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Nick is a true serviceman in every sense of the word. After serving his beloved Santa Cruz County as a Beach Lifeguard, Nick felt called to a great opportunity to serve his Country in the United States Air Force. Nick recently returned from his Basic Combat Training as an Airman, with a long-term career goal as becoming an elite “PJ” or Para Rescue Jumper. Nick is an incredible athlete, and a fish in the water. Nick first made a name for himself during this past summers epic Endurance Workouts and Ocean Swims. Nick is a powerful swimmer and is at home in the water, especially the ocean. Nick and his wife are devoted to their Christian Faith, and are a beautiful example of a Godly couple. Congratulations to Nicole Brown who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Nicole is a source of great inspiration to everyone who knows her. Her faith and positive mental attitude in the face of great adversity is an awesome example for everyone in our gym. Nicole has been training extremely hard in her physical rehabilitation, and has been supplementing additional CrossFit style training with Bronson Wilcox. Nicole has exceeded the rate of recovery originally diagnosed for her, and continues to grow stronger on a daily basis. “Super Ken” is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Ken, pictured with wife and former Athlete Of The Week Ame, on being recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. From the moment Ken walked in the door of our gym, his speed, power, commitment, discipline and capacity have been an inspiration to all who know him. Ken routinely sets gym records, and recently took First Place in the Masters Series Throwdown Competition. Ken also helped lead his Affiliate Cup Team to a Third Place Victory. When Ken is not training his heart at the gym, he serves as a Firefighter for Milpitas Fire Department. Congratulations to Amy Suzuki who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Amy is an absolute power-house with a Barbell, and consistently set the gym-record during the Masters Series Throwdown Series competition workouts. Amy and her husband Ken both exemplify the character values of faith and service, Amy through her work as a Nurse and Ken as a Firefighter. Andrew has been training at CrossFit Pleasure Point since the summer of 2012, and has made a radical transformation during this time period. Through hard-work, practice, dedication, goal-setting and determination, Andrew has forged himself into one of the top performing Athletes at our gym. In addition, Andrew recently accomplished a lifelong goal of being hired as a Firefighter for Central Fire Department in Santa Cruz County. Andrew is a man of immense character, and is a true testament to the power of faith, prayer and commitment to service. Henry (SR.), Mike and Henry (JR.) are Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to the “Most Beastly Family” in the gym – SR., JR., and Mike. This amazing family is dedicated to protecting and serving, and following the example of their dad. Henry Senior was a former Deputy Sheriff, who now serves as an Investigator with the District Attorneys Office. Mike serves in the United States Army, and Junior is pursing an advanced degree, with the goal of serving in Law Enforcement in Santa Cruz County. Henry Senior is also very active in our community, and recently organized the Santa Cruz County Law Enforcement Memorial Run. Inside the gym, these guys are absolute beasts, and as depicted in the photograph, often times take their fitness to the ultimate test of endurance and stamina in Mud Run and Spartan Races. Most importantly, these three men are shinning examples of integrity, service, faith and the pursuit of justice. Congratulations men!

Jacob is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Jacob on being recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Jacob is part of the CrossFit Pleasure Point CAMP Team (CrossFit Pleasure Point Maximum Performance) of high-level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters. In preparation for the recent Santa Cruz Pro Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament, Jacob had been trying up to three times a day, including multiple session of sparring practice, coupled with CAMP workouts. All of Jacob’s hard work and dedication paid off, with Jacob winning First Place in the Blue Belt Division. The Santa Cruz Pro was the first professional Jiu Jitsu Tournament held in Santa Cruz, and a very important competition win for Jacob’s career in Jiu Jitsu. Hunter is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Hunter on being recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Hunter is one of several hundred “Remote CrossFit Pleasure Point Athletes” due to his service in the United States Air Force, and his station in South Dakota. Hunter serves as a Security Forces Senior Airman and has been part training in CrossFit since 2008. Hunter recently completed the grueling Black Hills Veterans Ruck March “Heavy Division” covering a distance of 26.2 miles with a 35lb. pack. Hunter completes the daily CrossFit Pleasure Point workout with his fellow Airmen, often leading them through the sessions, and always posts one of the top scores from both our Santa Cruz and remote locations. Hunter is dedicated to self-improvement, and exemplifies the character traits of service, honor, courage, integrity and faith. Lucy is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Lucy who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Lucy joined our gym 7 weeks ago, and has since attended a CrossFit class nearly every day! When Lucy first joined the gym, she was unable to run a continuous mile. With her dedicated training and “I Can Do It!” mental-attitude, Lucy now runs 3 continual miles on a regular basis, and has a goal of completing the Disneyland Half Marathon in December this year. In the words of Coach Melany, “Lucy’s spirit is amazing. She is open to suggestions and really able to do the work, whatever it is, no matter how long it takes. She compliments everyone during and after their workouts. Her mindset is extremely positive and she loves making a new path for herself. Lucy continues to do CrossFit even when she travels for work! Congratulations to Stacey who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Stacey came to CrossFit with a background in highly competitive beach volleyball, and was an avid distance runner. Stacey brings to her workouts immense mental discipline and focus, especially on workouts that are longer in duration. Case in point: The As Many Miles As Possible (AMMAP) challenge last week. Stacey ran over 40 miles during the event, and looked as strong on her last mile as her first. Stacey is also extremely encouraging of the Athletes she trains with, and is always a joy to have in the gym. Congratulations Stacey on all your success, both inside and outside the gym!

Bob and Diane are Athletes Of The Week!

Congratulations to Bob (Legend #7) and Diane on being recognized as Athletes Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Bob and Diane are pillars of the CrossFit Pleasure Point community, and are a great source of inspiration to their fellow Athletes in all the CrossFit programs, in particular the 5:00 PM Light Workout. Bob and Diane are a great testament to the power of a Lifetime Fitness plan, and to the importance of finding balance in training. Diane is an avid practitioner and instructor of Yoga, and Bob is an avid climber. Together, they embrace the outdoors, and in the words of CrossFit Founder Coach Glassman, “Constantly learning and playing new sports.” Bob and Diane are also wonderful examples of living the word “Namaste”. All it takes is a few moments with this incredible couple for you to realize they are witnessing the spirit in each other, and in the world. Aisha is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Aisha on being recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Aisha is a recent graduate of the 15AUGUST2015 Musha Shugya. During Evolution #3, which was the “Underwater Swim Evolution”, Aisha was out of her comfort zone and was very challenged by the prospect of swimming underwater holding a 20lb. slam-ball. However, drawing on her inner warrior-spirit, Aisha successfully completed the Evolution on her second attempt. During the Musha Shugya, Aisha also completed her first “Murph” while wearing a 25lb. ruck-sack. Later in the week, Aisha accomplished a life-long goal of swimming in the ocean, and swam unassisted to the far buoy at Capitola Main Beach – not once, but twice! Aisha regularly trains up to three times a day, taking the “TriFecta Challenge” by attending Light, Yoga, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. When not in the gym, Aisha is studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a goal of becoming an Acupuncturist. Congratulations Aisha on all your success, both inside and outside the gym.

Carly is Athlete Of The Week!

Congratulations to Carly who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Back in the summer of 2012, Carly and Greg Amundson had a conversation that went like this:

“Greg, I’m really sorry – I threw up in your planter box.” Carly to Greg.

“That’s OK – it happens to the best of us! Welcome to the gym!” Greg to Carly.

Since that day, Carly has made some of the most incredible progress, both mentally and physically, ever recorded in our gym. From running her first “Big Loop” to displaying impeccable technique in her Olympic Lifts, Carly is an absolutely incredible Athlete and woman. One of the reasons Carly is so loved in the gym is her determination and Warrior Spirit during the workouts. A source of encouragement and inspiration to all who know her, Carly has captured the hearts of everyone at CrossFit Pleasure Point with her kindness, perseverance, work-ethic, and humor. Aaron – Athlete Of The Week & Musha Shugya Honor Graduate

Congratulations to Aaron Van Brunt on being recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point and Honor Graduate of the 15AUGUST2015 Musha Shugya “Warrior Quest.” This is the second time Aaron has been recognized as Athlete Of The Week and for good reason. Aaron continues to show remarkable performance in his CrossFit workouts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Warrior Yoga. In addition, Aaron is an ambassador for fitness, health and nutrition in our community, and is only a few months away from becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic. During the 15AUGUST2015 Musha Shugya, Aaron rose to the occasion in helping his fellow Candidates succeed in exceptionally challenging physical evolutions. As part of the “Forest Seclusion” evolution, Aaron was asked what three words described his effort during the Musha Shugya. His response: “Strong – Consistent – Pure”. Perfect choice of words to describe a Warrior and a Champion in the gym and in life. Congratulations Aaron!

Diane is Athlete Of The Week!

Congratulations to Diane who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Diane is one of several-hundred “CrossFit Pleasure Point Remote Athletes”, and serves as the Chief of Police at Hayward Police Department. Diane placed in the Top 10 in the ENTIRE WORLD during the CrossFit Games Masters Division Open, and competed in the 2015 CrossFit Games in Carson, CA. Diane is recognized across the Country as a top level competitive CrossFit Athlete. In addition, Diane is deeply respected and admired in the Law Enforcement community for her “Leadership by Example” style of leadership. Diane has served at every level of Law Enforcement, including SWAT and Sniper with the San Jose Police Department. Diane’s oldest daughter Christine (AKA “Cobbie”) is a Police Officer at San Diego Police Department. Diane exemplifies the character values of service, faith, determination and courage. Nick has enlisted in the United States Air Force with the goal of becoming a “PJ” or combat lifesaver. Nick’s incredible stamina, endurance and strength is evident of his hard work and preparation for the challenges that await. Nick is one of the most accomplished open-water and ocean swimmers in our gym, and frequently attends the Tuesday Outdoor Endurance WOD and Ocean Swim. Congratulations to Farhad on being recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Lovingly known in the gym as “The Lion”, Farhad is a loyal Athlete in the LIGHT workout and Yoga. In addition, Farhad is an avid “Fitness Outside The Box” enthusiast and competes at a high level in soccer. Jeremiah is Athlete of The Week!

Congratulations (and welcome back!) to Jeremiah who was recognized as Athlete of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Jeremiah just graduated from US Army Basis Combat Training at Fort. Leonardwood, Missouri, the same training ground that Captain Amundson attended US Army Military Police School. Jeremiah excelled in “Boot Camp” and was recognized for his incredible ability in Army Combatives. Jeremiah is a Black Belt in traditional Taiwan martial arts and a Phase B practitioner in Krav Maga. Jeremiah’s goal in the Army is to graduate from the Army Nursing Program, and serve our Country as a combat Nurse and Lifesaver. Thank you Jeremiah for protecting our Country! Dom is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Dominic who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Dom and his dad, Corey “Captain” Demers, joined our gym in July 2012. Dom’s very first workout was an outdoor session at the famous Seacliff Stairs! Dom is an extremely well-rounded Athlete, and trains in a variety of classes, including CAMP, Light, Yoga, Krav Maga, and outdoor workouts. Dom is a graduate of Krav Maga Phase A, and is preparing for his Phase B Test. Dom is loved in the gym for his determination and positive attitude in workouts, and his ability to encourage and support his training partners. Dom is on staff with his dad at Santa Cruz Cryotherapy, where his passion for health and wellness is quickly becoming his profession! Cobbie is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Cobbie who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Cobbie exemplifies the character values of service, kindness, faith, warrior-spirit and determination. Her performance in workouts and physical-challenges is a huge source of inspiration to everyone who knows her. Cobbie competed in a CrossFit Competition at Hayward Police Department (see photo above), where her leadership and physical capacity helped her team to a strong finish. In addition, during the recent SWAT “Murph” competition, Cobbie took 3rd place in her division with St. Lucie County SWAT Team in Florida, completing “Murph” in an incredible 37:15. Her time on “Murph” secured her a top-10 finish among SWAT Teams across the Nation, and the fastest overall female time. Shortly after completing “Murph” in Florida, Cobbie was presented the official SWAT Team Challenge Coin by SWAT Commander Brian Hester for her performance, inspiration and warrior-ethos. When not in Santa Cruz, Cobbie trains with Mark Divine at SEALFIT in Encinitas, and serves as a Peace Officer in Southern California, with a goal of becoming a SWAT Operator on her Department’s SWAT Team. Cobbie’s mom Diane, the Chief of Police at Hayward Police Department, is competing in the CrossFit Games Masters Division in Carson City. Chris Honey is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Officer Chris Honey who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Chris is one of nearly 100 “Remote CrossFit Pleasure Point Athletes” who are part of the CrossFit Pleasure Point CrossFit gym, yet reside outside the limits of Santa Cruz County. Chris is a Police Officer, SWAT Operator and Sniper in Truman Police Department, Arkansas. Chris is a huge advocate for CrossFit for Law Enforcement in his State, and speaks frequently to his fellow Officers in the Mississippi County region on how to incorporate CrossFit into their Department’s fitness programs. Chris is CrossFit Level I Certified and is a graduate of the CrossFit Law Enforcement Seminar. Congratulations Chris on all your success, and thank you for your service to our Country.

Corey “Captain” Demers is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Corey Demers who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Corey is an “Original Founding Member” of CrossFit Pleasure Point, joining our gym within a few weeks of it’s grand opening in July 2012. Corey was also one of the first receiptants of the prestigious Warrior Spirit Award. Corey’s mental discipline and determination is inspiring to see: Recently, after several months of slow-progress, he had a major breakthrough with his Double Under technique, and now effortlessly strings together consecutive repetitions. Corey is a top Athlete in the gym, and has competed in three consecutive CrossFit Games Open seasons, with increasing capacity and performance each year. Outside the gym, Corey’s extensive leadership experience has earned him deep respect. His former service includes combat deployment with the United States Army, and he currently serves as a Fire Captain with Mountain View Fire Department. Congratulations to Joey on being recognized as Athlete of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Joey is an extremely gifted Athlete, with extensive background in Martial Arts. Joey has been part of the recent Phase A Krav Maga class, where his training and experience in Krav Maga has been awesome to observe. During the 30 Day Challenge in May, Joey nearly reached 50 classes, many times attending three to four classes in the same day! Joey is a “Multi Athlete” and attends Yoga, Light, CAMP, Krav Maga and CrossFit classes, as well as participating in outdoor fitness activities. Congratulations to Kristin who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Kristin is a huge source of inspiration to the women in our gym. A mother of two beautiful children, wife to Chris (a local CHP Officer) and school-teacher, Kristin still makes time to attend CrossFit classes on a daily basis. Once in the gym, Kristin is renowned for her strong Barbell technique and her incredible gymnastics ability. In addition to her fitness capacity, Kristin is also very encouraging of herself, and all the other Athletes in the gym. A recent video of Kristin crushing a super-challenging workout side-by-side with Nate and Greg motivated several women from around the country to try CrossFit for the first time. Congratulations to Melany who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Here is a story about Melany that needs to be shared: Within just a few hours of her cross-country drive from North Carolina to Santa Cruz, Melany stepped into the Musha Shugya (Warrior Quest) as the only female candidate. She completed all of the evolutions to the Men’s Rx’d standard, including the workout “Murph” with a 35lb. ruck-sack (see photo above). Then, after graduation from Musha Shugya, Melany completed the Water Warrior Challenge at Capitola Main Beach, AND THEN, Monday morning, bright and early, Melany coached her first class at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Melany has all the heart, spirit, and technical knowledge of both a world-class Coach and Athlete. Her kindness, enthusiasm, creativity, and compassion has quickly brought her into the hearts of our Athletes. We are so grateful to have Melany on our Coaching Team. Congratulations to Delphine who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. The most amazing quality of Delphine is her ability to “Hold Her Own” with the big guns in the gym. If you look closely at most of the group photographs, you’ll see several big guys, and Delphine! Delphine is extremely respected in the gym for her determination, perseverance, work-ethic and athletic capacity. Delphine has worked extremely hard on her Double Under technique, and is able to consistently string 35 Double Under’s in a row during workouts. Delphine also has incredible good gymnastic technique, especially with her Kipping Pull-up. Ron exemplifies the spirit of “Lifetime Fitness” in the manner in which he has incorporated CrossFit, LIGHT, Yoga and Krav Maga into his daily practice. Since Ron started at CrossFit Pleasure Point, he has been “aging backwards” in a remarkable way. His adaptation to the techniques and metabolic demands of CrossFit are inspiring to everyone who trains with him – including Greg Amundson, one of Ron’s favorite training partners during the Tuesday and Thursday LIGHT class. Ron is a lifetime martial artist and true warrior, and his spirit in Krav Maga is incredible to see in action. Ron and his wife Nancy train together, and often complete multiple classes in one day, including LIGHT immediately followed by Yoga. Eric is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Eric who was recognized as Athlete of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Eric started his CrossFit training nearly two-years ago in the Foundations Class with Coach Dorie and he never looked back. Eric has the energy, enthusiasm, motivation and drive of five Athletes combined! As an example, Eric was one of a very few number of people who completed both the Musha Shugya and Water Warrior Challenge the same weekend. Eric attends up to three classes (CrossFit, Yoga and Krav Maga) a day on a regular basis, and his technique in all three disciplines is remarkable. Eric has made one of the biggest transformation in his Krav Maga practice, and was observed on Wednesday’s class helping teach Handgun defense against a new Phase B student. In addition to Eric’s athleticism, he is also a very talented musician and songwriter. Eric has the heart of a champion and displays the character values of service, courage, faith and compassion both inside and outside the gym. Congratulations Eric!

Congratulations to Justin who was recognized as Athlete and Coach Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. The most common expression from people when they mention Justin is, “I love that guy!” Justin indeed captures the heart and soul of our gym in his kindness, compassion, encouragement, and selfless-service to others. Take for example the recent Water Warrior Competition: After CrossFit NorCal’s team-members left Austin (same person who completed Justin’s Level I CrossFit Course) at the start line of the final foot-race all alone, Justin volunteered to be his partner for the team-race. Justin’s incredible speed in the sand and water, even though he had dried off and was wearing jeans (see photo above) was enough to secure the 2nd place victory for CrossFit NorCal. Now that is pure CrossFit Pleasure Point! In addition to his athleticism, Justin is a great Coach who cares deeply for the Athletes in our gym. Today is also Justin and Bri’s 4 year anniversary! Nate is Athlete of The Week

Congratulations to Nate who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point – and in many respects, at CrossFit NorCal and CrossFit Santa Cruz, and to the countless spectators at the Water Warrior Challenge who saw Nate in action. Nate volunteered his time and stood on the sea-shore for 90 minutes, offering “High Fives” pats on the back, warm hugs, and words of encouragement to every single competitor in the Challenge. Many of the competitors, following the event, exclaimed to Greg Amundson, “I’m not sure who that guy was at the end of the swim, but without his encouragement, I’m not sure I would have made it!” Nate has quickly become a huge source of inspiration, motivation and encouragement in our gym. Naomi is Athlete Of The Week 

Congratulations to Naomi who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Naomi’s performance during the recent CrossFit Open quickly became the stuff of legend, and her stellar technique, stamina and warrior-spirit enabled her to qualify for the next round of CrossFit Games Worldwide Competition. Naomi has nearly 15 years of CrossFit experience to her credit, and was one of the “Founding Members” of the original CrossFit HQ gym. Many of Naomi’s early experiences with CrossFit helped forge the way for now millions of CrossFit Athletes. In addition to her competitive drive in the gym, Naomi has served and protected our community as both a Police Officer with Santa Cruz Police, and now as a Deputy Sheriff with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. Naomi recently represented the SCSO on the infamous Baker to Vegas relay run (along with Mark) as depicted in the photograph above. Mark is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Mark who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Mark is from the “old school” and was one of the first Athletes from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office to participate in CrossFit at the original CrossFit HQ gym in early 2003. Mark was subject to many of the “trial and error” workouts that were infamous in the early days of the CrossFit program. Mark has been training at CrossFit Pleasure Point for over two years. In addition to training CrossFit, Mark is an excellent marksman, horseback rider, and now long-distance runner! Mark was on the SCSO Baker to Vegas Relay Team (pictured above) along with Naomi. During Marks leg of the run, temperatures soared above 93 degrees. According to Mark, it was the most challenging experience of his life. Carlos is Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to Carlos who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Without a doubt, Carlos is one of the strongest pound-for-pound weightlifters in our gym. During last weeks 5×5 Bench Press Session, at a bodyweight of 170lb., Carlos breezed through 5 repetitions at 230lb. However, because of his diligent work ethic, his gymnastic skills are now a force to be reckoned with. Carlos (thanks to Jody and Efrain) has perfected the Butterfly Kipping technique, and consistently strings together 30 Pull-ups in a single set, often times at a high heart-rate. And to top things off, Carlos recently achieved his first Ring Muscle-up! Carlos is respected in the gym for his kindness, enthusiasm, warrior-spirit and attention to technique. Dorie has been training at CrossFit Pleasure Point since our gym first opened and has always been the cheerful, loving, kind and encouraging woman that we know and love today. Dorie quickly made the transformation from Athlete to Coach, and her ability to educate and inspire Athletes in the methodology of CrossFit is inspiring to everyone. Garth has captured the hearts of our Athletes with his passion for teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a way the CrossFitter can understand. Roberto is Athlete of The Week

Congratulations to Roberto who was recognized as Athlete Of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Roberto has been training at CrossFit Pleasure Point for nearly two years and his progress has been inspiring to all the Coaches and Athletes at our gym. Roberto is a “Four Discipline Athlete” and trains in Yoga, CrossFit, Krav Maga and now Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Roberto is also on the CrossFit Pleasure Point Competitors Team and participates on a regular basis in the Endurance WOD, WaterWOD and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) program. Knowing that Overhead Squats would likely be a component of the CrossFit Open, Roberto practiced extensively during Open Gym and before class. During 15.2 on Saturday, the hard work paid off and Roberto performed extremely well in both the Pull-ups and Overhead Squats. In addition to her stellar performance in CrossFit workouts, Amanda is most regarded for her incredible skill in Krav Maga. Congratulations to Shelby who was recognized as Athlete of The Week. Shelby is an extremely dedicated and focused Athlete. For the past several months, Shelby has kept very accurate records of her fitness accomplishments in the gym. This record keeping paid huge dividends when on Friday, Shelby faced off against the workout “Helen.” Based on her previous data from June 11, 2014, Shelby set a goal to complete the workout in 12:00, keeping to a 4:00 round-average split time. Despite the heat and completing the workout by herself, Shelby set a huge record with an 11:43, the third fastest time of the day. In addition to her amazing athleticism, Shelby serves as a school teacher in Salinas. Congratulations to Shelby on your success, both inside and outside the gym!

Cody is Athlete of The Week

Congratulations and a “well deserved” to Cody who was recognized as Athlete of The Week. Cody consistently, with a humble attitude, sets gym records in both weightlifting and gymnastic skills. Of special mention was his incredible 40 consecutive Pull-ups following a 400 meter sprint and 21 Kettlebell Swings. Cody is extremely disciplined with his entire training program, to include technique and skill work (Cody attends Olympic Lifting Class twice a week) his nutrition (Cody brings tupperware with Zone meals to the gym and to work) and his stretching and mindfulness (Cody attends Warrior Body Zen Mind Yoga Practice.) Thank you for being such an inspiration to everyone in the gym Cody, and keep up the amazing work.

Lee is Athlete of The Week

Congratulations to Lee who was recognized as Athlete of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Lee is a huge source of inspiration and encouragement to everyone in the gym, in particular the Public Safety professionals who serve our County. Lee captures the spirit of the True Warrior, and is as disciplined with his mental focus as his physical prowess. Lee has immense concentration, and has the ability to use the power of his mind to achieve extraordinary results in his workouts. Lee frequently pushes the boundaries of human capacity, yet does so with a humble heart and support of his fellow Athletes. Lee’s wife LeAnn recently completed the CrossFit Pleasure Point Internship Program and is now a Coach at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Pete is Athlete of The Week!

Congratulations to Pete who was recognized as Athlete of The Week! Pete and his wife Kim are two of the most dedicated Athletes at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Pete’s progress in the daily workouts has been incredible to see, and his physical fitness is only surpassed by his mental toughness. Pete is also a huge source of inspiration to his fellow Deputy Sheriff’s at the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, where he serves is several capacities, including a Team Leader on the highly respected SWAT Team. Shawn Dollar is Athlete of The Week

Congratulations to Shawn Dollar who was recognized as Athlete of The Week. Shawn is a shinning example of taking “Fitness Outside the Box” in his incredible sport of big wave surfing. Shawn is at home in the ocean, and along with Bernie, is one of the most talented open-water swimmers at our gym. Congratulations Shawn on all of your success, and thank you for being such a great example of courage and faith to everyone in the gym.

Christian is Athlete of The Week!

Congratulations to Christian on being the first Athlete to receive this distinction. When Christian first visited CrossFit Pleasure Point, he was skeptical of his athleticism, and struggled with many of the foundational movements. Christian sought out private coaching during Open Gym Hours, and practiced his technique relentlessly. Christian also dedicated himself to improving mobility and flexibility, and attends Yoga twice a week. Christian also developed the Warriors Heart, and became “comfortable with the uncomfortable” during workouts. During the beach workout on June 14, 2014, Christian sprinted past Greg on the final round, while encouraging Greg with the words, “Great job Coach!” Christian truly embodies the values of personal-courage, integrity, the Warrior Spirit and humbleness. Congratulations Chris on being recognized as Athlete of the Week!

Bernie is Athlete of The Week!

Congratulations to Bernie on being recognized as Athlete of The Week from June 16 to June 22, 2014. Although relatively new to our gym, Bernie is no stranger to CrossFit and physical training. In just one month, Bernie has made a profoundly positive impact on everyone at the gym. His gentle manner, kind smile, and fierceness in the workouts has been an inspiration to everyone. Bernie frequently attends three classes a day: CrossFit in the morning, an outdoor Endurance Workout in the afternoon, and Yoga in the evening! Efrain is Athlete of The Week!

Congratulations to Efrain who was recognized as our third Athlete Of The Week. Efrain is approaching his two year CrossFit training anniversary and has made incredible gains through his disciplined training regime. Efrain is extremely gifted in his Barbell techniques, and is one of the most mentally tough Athletes at our gym. In addition to training hard at CrossFit Pleasure Point, Efrain frequently takes his fitness outside the box, such as rocking Pull-ups at the beach while on vacation in Brazil for the World Cup. Colin is Athlete of The Week

Congratulations to Colin on being recognized as Athlete of The Week at CrossFit Pleasure Point. Colin is one of the most dedicated Athletes at our gym, and  routinely completes “Three Rounds” by attending CrossFit, Yoga and Krav Maga, all in the same day. Colin has the heart, discipline and character of a true warrior. Outside the gym, Colin serves our community as a Paramedic. Britain is Athlete of The Week

On behalf of all the Athletes at CrossFit Pleasure Point, congratulations to Britain on being recognized as Athlete of The Week. Britain is respected in the gym for his incredible work capacity, warrior spirit, determination, and sincere encouragement for his fellow competitors. Britain frequently posts some of the fastest workout times, yet is humble about his success and is always eager to improve his performances. Britain also participates in the CrossFit Pleasure Point Yoga and Mobility Program, and his practice has noticeably improved. Outside the gym, Britain is a devoted husband and father, and an active part of his Church. The success of our Memorial Day Murph and Fourth of July events are largely due to Britain’s leadership, organization and awesome cooking skills. Congratulations Britain!
