Endurance Workout
At CrossFit Pleasure Point, we love to “Train Outside The Box!” Living in Santa Cruz County has some immense blessings, including several incredible outdoor training locations. Among our favorites are the Seacliff State Beach wooden stairs, the track at the University of California at Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz Harbor for Stand-Up-Paddling (SUP) and the Rio Del Mar Main Beach in Rio Del Mar, CA.
We like to brand our “Outdoor Workouts” as Endurance Workouts. CrossFit Pleasure Point hosts a weekly Endurance workout lead by Greg Amundson. These workouts are on Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 PM and are free to CrossFit Pleasure Point Athletes. The Endurance workouts involve running on trails and the beach, as well as swimming in both the ocean and the University of California at Santa Cruz main pool and Stand-Up-Paddling (SUP) at the Santa Cruz Harbor and main beach.
In January, 2010, Greg Amundson was greatly humbled and inspired by his attempt to run 100 Miles in 24 Hours [Video]. Greg learned from the experience the significance of including endurance distance training in his regular CrossFit programming. This was only further solidified during Greg’s experience as a Candidate at Kokoro Camp #12 [Video]
We look forward to enjoying the great outdoors with you and sharing our love for endurance running, paddling and swimming. To really appreciate the incredible physical abilities of Endurance Athletes and understand how mentally tough their sport is, we recommend reading Greg Amundson’s CrossFit Journal Article “Training 2 Miles to Run 100“. The Endurance Workouts involve trips in our Epic Fitness Van. It’s recommended Athletes have access to a wetsuit, goggles and swims as this summer we will be increasing the volume of our ocean swimming workouts.
